International scientific conference in Nida, dedicated to 20th anniversary of inscription of Curonian Spit on UNESCO World Heritage List

Twenty years ago, the Curonian Spit was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and became not only a local pride, but also a global value. The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania announced the year 2020 the year of UNESCO. This is a good occasion to call attention to the situation in the most unique area of Lithuania.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the Curonian Spit on UNESCO World Heritage List, an international scientific conference "Bendras paveldas - bendros žinios: kultūrinis Kuršių nerijos kraštovaizdis praeityje ir dabar" (Common heritage – common knowledge: cultural landscape of the Curonian Spit in the past and at present), organised by the Kuršių Nerija National Park Directorate together with  partners – Neringa Municipality and Neringa Museum.

THE MUSEUM OF MINERALS BECAME RICHER

Agate collector V. Matuzevičius donated 43 more minerals to the Museum of Minerals. The collections of the museums were supplemented with agates from globally known mineral deposits in Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), Morocco (Asni and Agouim), and Poland (Novy Kosciol). The donated collection contains not only agates but also wonderful jaspers from Madagascar and flint from the Holy Cross Mountains in Poland, considered to be the most colourful flint in the world.

International Conference on Biological Invasions NEOBIOTA2020

On 15–18 September 2020, Vodice (Croatia) hosted the 11th International Conference on Biological Invasions NEOBIOTA2020. The conference was participated by 152 scientists from 34 countries; it was organised in two formats – face-to-face and online. Lithuania was represented by a Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Micology, Dr Jurga Motiejūnaitė, who presented a poster "Monitoring of potentially invasive macrofungi - novel versus traditional methods" prepared in conjunction with co-authors R. Iršėnaitė, J. Kasparavičius and K. Kvedaravičiūtė.
