The 8th Conference of the Scandinavian-Baltic Society for Parasitology and the Annual Meeting of the European Veterinary Parasitology College CSBSP8&EVPC2019 (Copenhagen, Denmark)

On 9-11th October, Copenhagen University (Denmark) hosted The 8th Conference of the Scandinavian-Baltic Society for Parasitology and the Annual Meeting of the European Veterinary Parasitology College CSBSP8&EVPC2019. More than 200 researchers from Europe and other countries participated in this event. Researchers and students from Nature Research Centre have attended the conference and made oral and poster presentations. During General Assembly of Scandinavian-Baltic Society for Parasitology dr. Vaidas Palinauskas was re-elected as Vice-President of association. It was announced that next CSBSP9 conference will be held in Vilnius in 2021. Restoration of barbel in the Neris River

On 10–11 October, Trakai hosted an international scientific-practical conference "Resources, threats and prospects of rare and endangered fish". Presentations were delivered by Nature Research Centre's scientists: Dr Vytautas Kesminas and Dr Vytautas Rakauskas. The conference focused on the issues of release of aquarium-reared barbel juveniles (aged 0+ and 1 + years) into the Neris River. The barbel (Barbus barbus) is a typical benthophagous river fish species. Lithuania is the northernmost distribution range of the barbel. However, climate warming might cause the occurrence of this species in the neighbouring more northerly countries. The number of barbels decreased in the second half of the last century due to intensive anthropogenic pressure. International scientific-practical seminar on ASH DIEBACK

The researchers from the Laboratory of Plant Pathology of Nature Research Centre together with colleagues from Germany, Estonia and Latvia are running an international scientific project "Consolidating approaches to mitigate the ash dieback disease in the Baltic States and Germany". On 16 October 2019, 9:00 A.M. the Kaunas College of Forestry and Environmental Engineering (Liepų St 1, Girionys, Kaunas district) and on 17 October 2019,  9:00 A.M. the Nature Research Centre (Conference Hall, Akademijos St 2, Vilnius) will host an international seminar where Lithuanian and foreign scientists will share the problems and experience on ash dieback caused by invasive pathogenic fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, threats all over Europe, and search for efficient measures to control the spread of the disease.
