29 March through 6 April, P. B. Šivickis Laboratory of Parasitology hosted Prof. María Ángeles Rojo from Miguel de Cervantes European University (Valladolid, Spain). For 10 years the professor has been engaged in molecular investigations of avian haemosporidian parasites. Infections caused by these blood parasites are widespread in Europe and Lithuania and pose threat to wildlife. During the visit, Prof. Rodríguez got acquainted with the methodology of diagnosing avian haemosporidian parasites, which is created and successfully used in Nature Research Centre. Also, further cooperation in avian blood infection diagnosis and prophylaxis was discussed.
