2020.03.09

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania declared 2019 the Year of World Lithuanians in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of  the Lithuanian Charter that established the Lithuanian World Community.

Contributing to the celebration of this event, the Nature Research Centre organised an exhibition "For Science and Lithuania: Famous Lithuanian World Scientists (20th c. – beginning of 21st c.)" to be open until 6 May 2020.

The exhibition is about Lithuanian scientists who either left their motherland or were born abroad and made significant scientific achievements far from Lithuania. The exhibition presents only a part of world famous Lithuanian scientists whose works have become the treasure of Lithuanian and global science.

It should be mentioned that personal archives of some scientists, namely zoologist Pranciškus Baltrus Šivickis, ecologist Kazys Ėringios, linguist Algirdas Julius Greimas and philosopher Ignas Kęstutis Skrupskelis, are stored at the Manuscripts Department of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
