Renewal of Aquatic Warbler population

Last Friday, 50 juvenile Aquatic Warblers (Acrocephalus paludicola) were released at the Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve after translocation from Belarus. Congratulations to all the participants and the staff of the Baltic Environmental Forum, who successfully translocated juveniles and contributed to the conservation of one of the rarest bird species in Europe. We are pleased that Dr. Vaidas Palinauskas, Senior Researcher of P.B. Šivickis Laboratory of Parasitology at the Nature Research Center contributed to this project. Blood samples for avian parasite testing and host sex determination were taken from all birds prior to release. Blood smears were prepared for microscopy and a small drop of blood was stored in the buffer for further molecular studies of the parasites.
