Researchers of the Laboratory of Chemical and Behavioural Ecology are the first to identify the pheromone of the fruit fly Rhagoletis batava, a pest of sea buckthorn berries. The related article is published in a Q1 journal The Insects. The pheromone is an optically active compound (-) -ᵹ- heptalactone. This substance attracts fruit flies of both sexes; therefore, it has a great potential for practical application and companies trading in pheromones will undoubtedly include it in their lists.
