Laboratory of Biodeterioration Research
Head: dr. ALGIMANTAS PAŠKEVIČIUS
The main research areas relate to the ecological and biological properties of fungi, yeast and bacteria in natural and anthropogenized ecosystems, as well as biodiversity and functioning of microorganisms on uncommon substrata or in polluted environment and the search for microorganisms that deteriorate natural and synthetic polymeric materials and produce biologically active substances. The potential to utilise microorganisms in biotechnology is also analysed. The microbiological state in residential and occupational environments is also assessed as well as a search for measures that inhibit hazardous actions of microorganisms. A collection of about 3000 species and strains of pure cultures of various microorganisms is stored at the laboratory.
