Laboratory of Mammalian Ecology
Head: assoc. prof. dr. habil. LINAS BALČIAUSKAS
The main research trends are investigations of mammal species diversity, abundance and dynamics, habitat and spatial distribution, demographical structure and ecology of populations, as well as the assessment of functional regularities of mammal populations and communities in different landscapes and under anthropogenic impact. Determination of factors conditioning the extinction of rare mammal populations (bats, dormice, otter and lynx) is also conducted. The Laboratory contributes to the implementation of national commitments within the framework of the EU environmental protection policy and is engaged in socio-ecological analysis to measure public tolerance of mammals.
